Cllr Martin Lyon
I’m married to Sara and we have four children aged between 13 and 19. We have lived in the parish for nearly 10 years; my brother in law and sister in law, and their families, also live in the parish.
I am a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, employed as commercial manager for a national Facilities Management company, based locally in Eastleigh. Sarah is an RGN GP nurse with over 20 years experience in the health service. We are fully involved in the local community with two of our children attending sports clubs in the borough, one of them being Eastleigh Rugby Club.
Hobbies and interests for me include jogging, rugby, gardening, singing and reading history. Church is also important to me.
After having been self employed for five years running my own business, I hope to bring some useful experience to the role of Parish Councillor. It is a real privilege to have been elected as one of your councillors and I am determined to do everything I can to serve this local community, to the best of my ability.
Actively involved in local politics for a number of years I previously stood for parish and borough elections in 2009, 2010 and 2011. At the 2010 general election I stood as perspective parliamentary candidate for New Forest West, successfully holding my deposit. Currently I am the local branch membership secretary for Eastleigh and Southampton.
I believe in the importance of local people being allowed to take an active interest in their community; to have a say in what happens in their neighbourhood and to engage in the democratic process, rather than be dictated to by unelected regional and national groups. Everyone has a part to play, and for now you have elected me to represent your views in this community.
